Day 136- January 4, 2010

So I was making a claim at Medicare today. It sounds like the start of a joke, and to some extent it was. The people you see there, or perhaps that’s just Greensborough Plaza. Might just be the shopping centre, or any such shopping centre, because they always fill me with a sense of despair. Don’t let me go to Chadstone. Anyway, back to Medicare. There was a man there: slightly large, covered in tattoos and piercings and wearing a tshirt with the Southern Cross on it. You know the kind. But he was balding and, for whatever reason, decided that the best way to preserve the last vestiges of hair was stick them up with hair gel. It made him look about ten. I mean, apart from the balding and the tattoos and the piercings. Also, there was an Asian Amy Winehouse. What a look.

So apart from that, I spent a good portion of today applying for jobs. I’d kind of like one, being unemployed and all; and I’m trying to set up some interviews for when I come back from Sydney. I’ve got three applications each with McDonalds and Dominos, one with a Telstra call centre (inbound, don’t worry!), one with a Harvey Norman photo lab, one for a job at Clive Peeters running cooking classes and demonstrating kitchen appliances (no harm in dreaming); and inquiries about possible jobs at Marriner Theatres (the company that runs the Princess Theatre, the Regent, The Forum, etc.) and the State Library. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll hand out my resume to every cafe in the area.

And then for dinner I made a Nepalese Meatball Curry. The word “Meatball” is somewhat misleading; I think “Vaguely Spherical Autonomous Meat Collective” would be more appropriate. Or perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I got lazy rolling the meatballs and made them somewhat large. No matter. It all turned out well in the end. See photo.

  1. Like your pros as much as your image –very nice pros and photography. Good luck with the job search and keep your chin up. By the way, I love meatballs, especially in the Italian wedges I grew up eating back in New York.

  2. Thanks, Luis. Your photos are pretty amazing.
